Bungee jumping in Uganda

Bungee jumping in Uganda is done in Jinja, an adrenaline-raising activity that someone needs to challenge the fear of heights.  It involves jumping from a platform with a bungee cord connected to two tied legs. One does not require any experience to participate in this activity. Bungee jumping is rare and is only done in a few African countries like South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.

Where to go for bungee jumping in Uganda

Bungee jumping in Uganda happens in Jinja city, 3km upstream from Bujagali Falls. There stands a 44km tall cliff that enables a person to jump and touch down on the Nile waters. The face is usually looking down allowing you to float like a butterfly. Someone interested in participating in bungee jumping must be above 13 years, weighing a minimum weight of 35kg and a maximum of 260kg. If one is scared of jumping alone the experience can be done in pairs.

What is required for one to participate

  • A participant must be 13 years and above, weighing between 35kgs and  260kgs.
  • Pregnant women are not allowed to participate in bungee jumping.
  • One must first check with the team to ensure that the equipment to use is fitting you well.
  • Avoid jumping when it is raining as it may lead you to lack confidence.
  • All valuables must be left behind to avoid any loss while jumping.
  • One must be free from any heart disease, high blood pressure, or any other medical condition.

When can bungee jumping be done in Uganda?

Bungee jumping in Uganda can be done any day from 9 am to 5 pm throughout the year.Although the best time is during the dry season from June to September and December to February. Travelers can participate in either body Jump which allows you to feel like you are flying without wings or the ankle one with your face looking down just like sky diving.

What to expect

Bungee jumping starts with registering the participants who sign waiver forms after making payment. One can choose to go for a long jump allowing you to touch the River Nile, or a short jump which stops midway. With the guidance of the trained guides, you will dress up in the jumping gear.  Both legs are tied with a single rope to allow the participant to fall freely.

Participants who are first-timers are advised not to look down the cliff before jumping because one might get second thoughts. It is a safe activity to do if you want to test your adrenaline levels. The initial fall takes a few seconds as the rope bounces back and forth before finally getting down to touch the water of river Nile. Guides will be waiting with a boat to untie the equipment used and take you to a waiting place to relax.

Is bungee jumping safe?

Bungee jumping is a very safe sport no accident has ever occurred since this activity was introduced more than 10 years ago. Though one signs a waiver form it does not mean it is unsafe. There are trained guides with many years of experience who conduct and guide you during this activity. The equipment used like the jumping cords are made from high-quality latex rubber and are first tested before clients use them.
