12 Days Kenya wildlife and adventure safari

The 12 Days Kenya Wildlife and adventure safari takes you to explore most of the fascinating parks that Kenya has to offer, you will be able to have mesmerizing encounters with Africa’s big 5, cross the Great Rift Valley, witness the great migration (seasonal) and end your safari with relaxing at the beach as you cool off in the waters of the Indian ocean.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to a hotel

On the first day of your safari, a guide/ driver will pick you up from the airport in Nairobi and transfer you to a hotel where you will check in and relax till the next day.

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park

On the second day of your safari, after having breakfast you will check out of your hotel and meet up with your guide/driver who will transfer you to Lake Nakuru National Park, this park is located in the northwestern part and it takes about a 3 hours’ drive to get there.  Upon arrival, you will check in your hotel, have lunch, and later embark on a game drive around Lake Nakuru where you will be able to see beautiful flamingos and other bird species.

During the game drive you will be able to see other wildlife species like buffaloes, zebras, rhinos, gazelles, impalas, lions, hyenas, monkeys and many more. After the game drive you will transfer back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Masai Mara Game reserve

After having breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and transfer to Masai Mara Reserve which is Kenya’s jewel for wildlife viewing. It is well known for its annual wildebeest migration that attracts thousands of travelers all over the globe. The journey will take about 4 hours and upon arrival, you will check in your hotel, have lunch, and relaxation. Later you may visit a Maasai village for a cultural encounter where you will get to witness how the locals live their day-to-day lives. You will interact with the locals and learn about their traditions and norms, later you will transfer back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Game drive in Masai Mara Reserve

After breakfast you will be led by your guide to the vast plains of Masaai Mara where you will have amazing encounters with the big 5, if it is the season for the annual wildebeest migration you will have the greatest encounter of a lifetime where you will witness thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the Mara river, it is a lifetime experience as you watch these animals fight for their life versus the crocodiles and other predators. 

On this day you will have a bush lunch as the game drive will take a full day, after the game drive you will transfer back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Naivasha

After having breakfast you will check out of the hotel and your guide/driver will pick you up and transfer you to Lake Naivasha, during your journey you will have beautiful sceneries of the savannah plains, and upon arrival, you will enjoy a boat cruise after having lunch. The lake has floating islands filled with papyrus reeds and during the boat cruise, you will be able to have close encounters with hippos, birds, and other wild species which can be seen at beside the lake. After the boat cruise transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

There are other optional activities to do like engaging in a walking safari on Crescent Island or transferring to nearby Hells Gate National Park for cycling, rock climbing, and cultural encounter among others.

Day 6: Transfer to Amboseli National Park

After having breakfast your guide/driver will transfer you to Amboseli National Park and it takes about 5 hours to get there. Upon arrival check in your hotel refresh and have lunch. Later in the late afternoon, you will embark on a game drive as you will have encounters with elephants, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and many more, you will also have great views of Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Mountain which is the tallest mountain in Africa and can be seen from this park. After the game drive transfer back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7: Morning Game drive and transfer to Tsavo West National Park

After having breakfast you will check out of the hotel and meet with your guide who will take you on a morning drive which will enable you to see some of the animals you might have missed out on the previous day since most animals are active in the morning yielding great success of seeing many species during this time of the day.

After the game drive you will embark on a journey to Tsavo West National Park which is 3-hour drive away, most of the roads are difficult and tiring to navigate and upon arrival, you will check in your hotel for lunch and relaxation after the hectic journey.

Day 8: Game drive and transfer to Mombasa

On the eighth day of your safari, you will have breakfast, check out of the hotel, and embark on a game drive in Tsavo West National Park which is well known for the thick red soils and large numbers of elephants that can be seen in the open plains of the park. The park is rocky, bushy, wild, and scrubby giving you a true feeling of a wilderness, you will be able to see animals like giraffes, black rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, lions and so many more. After the game drive you will transfer to Mombasa and upon arrival, you will check in your hotel, have dinner, and have an overnight stay.

Day 9 to Day 11: Exploring Mombasa and relaxing at Diani Beach

For the last three days of your safari, you will relax on the beach as you cool off from the wilderness, you will be able to enjoy the great restaurants with good seafood, swim in the Indian Ocean, and smell the great fresh air. You will be able to walk with your bare foot on the long white sand beaches, sip a glass of wine, and enjoy sundowners as you overlook the ocean.

You will explore some historic sites, have a city tour and be able to buy some crafts. There is also a snake farm you may visit. Take part in all adventurous activities you may wish to participate in like swimming, boat cruising, windsurfing, jet skiing, and diving where you may see dolphins, snorkeling, and fishing.

Nature lovers may also visit Kaya Kinondo which is a forest where travelers can have nature walks through coral reefs and thick tree roots, you will be able to see different plant species some believed to be medicinal. There is also a rehabilitation and conservation center for orphaned colobus and vervet monkeys.

Day 12: Transfer to airport

At the end of your 12-day safari, after having breakfast your guide/driver will transfer you to the airport or your next destination. That will make the end of your 12-day safari.
