Activities to do during adventure safaris in Uganda

White water rafting

River Nile in Jinja is the main hub for whitewater rafting and is known for its grade 3 to 5 rapids. This experience can last for 6 hours covering a stretch of 25 kilometers. Kalagala and Bujagali Falls are also other places to experience white water rafting during an adventure safari in Uganda.

The best time to go for white water rafting in Uganda is during the dry season from June to October and December to Late February. During these months the weather is warm and the sun is hot.

Bungee jumping

Bungee jumping in Uganda happens in Jinja city. This includes a person jumping from a 44km tall cliff to touch down on the Nile waters. It is usually done while the face is looking down allowing one to float like a butterfly as their legs are tied and connected to a bungee cord.

It is an adrenaline-raising activity that someone needs to experience to challenge the fear of heights. All participants must be above 13 years of age and must have a minimum weight of 35 kg and a maximum of 260kg.

Abseiling

Abseiling also known as rappelling, involves descending vertically from higher altitudes using ropes and specialized equipment. In Uganda, abseiling is done at the main falls of Sipi falls which are nestled in the foothills of Mount Elgon. Sipi falls are located in Eastern Uganda, in Kapchorwa district past Mbale district. There are skilled guides to take travelers through this amazing activity and the equipment to be used is given to them by the guides.  Be ready to get an adrenaline rush as you abseil down from the tallest waterfall which stands at 100 meters tall.

Biking Or Cycling

Cycling is not only a form of sport, or exercise but rather an adventurous way of exploring most areas in Uganda. It gives an insight into some parts of the country that are not accessible by vehicles.

There are many incredible biking routes that travelers can use like riding through valleys, villages, Lake Mburo National Park, along rivers and hills among others. Travelers are not required to come with a bicycle as there are plenty of shops to rent a bike for this activity. Most itineraries have the costs covered within the whole tour package.

Hiking and mountaineering

Uganda is not well known when it comes to mountaineering compared to neighboring countries. However, it offers the best hiking trails that tourists can use during an adventure safari in Uganda. Hiking can be done on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains, Mount Elgon, Virunga volcanoes, and Sipi Falls among others.

Mountaineering requires a certain level of fitness. It can take up to 6 to 7 days for higher trails like reaching the highest peak of Mount Rwenzori. Hiking up a mountain is a test of character, discipline, and resilience. In the end, it gives you confidence in the achievement you accomplish.

Quad biking

Quad biking is a fast-paced adrenaline sport that allows you to explore some areas that are remote. These include communities, forests, plantations, villages, and parks especially during an adventure safaris in Uganda. Travelers who do not prefer nature walks usually opt for quad biking since it is not very limited.

Quad biking costs between $ 25 to $150 depending on the route, hours, and place where you have visited. Travelers who do not have experience should not worry because they are first trained. Additionally, there are experienced guides who take you through this adventure.

Boat cruising

Boat cruising is a relaxing and adventurous activity that travelers can engage in during their visit to Uganda. There are many water bodies where boat cruises are done ranging from Lakes and rivers. During boat cruises, travelers spend time in a water vessel like a boat, or yacht. The places that offer boat cruises in Uganda include Murchison Falls National Park, Kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Source of River Nile in Jinja, Lake Victoria, Ssese Island, and Lake Bunyonyi among others.

Horse riding

Horse riding is not a commonly done activity in Uganda since it has always been known as an activity for English and French people. However, it is growing and getting known by Ugandans and other Africans. Travelers can explore places like national parks, leisure parks, villages, and communities using horses. Every person who has ridden a horse before understands the beauty and uniqueness it gives as part of a fun adventure safaris in Uganda.  Horses are very intelligent and can be ridden by both adults and children, depending on the place you have visited for this activity.

Zip lining

Zip lining is a recreational activity that involves riding a steel cable with a seat harness between two points. This is normally over a water body or in a valley or forest that exhibits spectacular sceneries. The best time to do zip lining is during the dry season however it can be done all year long. This activity is usually done from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 Pm.

When to go for adventure safaris in Uganda.

The best time to go for an adventure safaris in Uganda is during the dry seasons which happen from June to August and from December to February. These are the best months to do adventurous activities since the temperatures are warm and there is always little or no rainfall.
